Call for Information -Festival and Events Organisers

An opportunity to bring people together to discuss what a group of people with enthusiasm and passion for their town can do to strengthen the local economy and enhance tourism. The Events and Festival group recognises that support for the private sector is pivotal to ensuring that Beverley has a thriving economy in the future.  Focused on the need for a coordinated approach to events and festivals and a need to raise the profile of Beverley's Events to coach and travel companies outside East Yorkshire.

Festival and events organisers are invited to submit their event details for collation in an annual on-line calendar for other residents and visitors to access.  This exercise will help to coordinate the towns events and festivals, increase the sharing of information between organisers and reduce the clash of events.  It will provide events organisers who don't have a website of their own use of an on-line calendar, free of charge. Those that sign up will be encouraged to link-up to other Beverley event websites.

To submit details of festivals and events contact Kerry Straw, Renaissance Coordinator via email at kerry.straw@eastriding.gov.uk or by telephone on 01482 391608. Please provide the time, date and venue of your event along with contact details.

ELWELL TRAIL

Born in Beverley in 1870, Fred Elwell was a renowned artist whose favourite subject for his paintings was the everyday working folk of Beverley and the surrounding area.

His touching and detailed paintings show the everyday lives of the working classes, often depicting housemaids and labourers whilst busy at their work.

Both he and his wife, Mary , an artist herself, travelled extensively but always returned to Beverley. The graves of both Fred and Mary are the first memorials inside the main entrance of St Mary¿s Cemetery on New Walk in Molescroft, Beverley.

Painting the Town Fred and Mary, a joint venture by Beverley and District Civic Society, Beverley Renaissance Partnership and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, has turned Beverley town centre in to a huge art gallery to honour the Elwells with 22 replica paintings being displayed forming an outdoor art trail. Copies of the trail leaflet are available on www.beverleyrenaissance.co.uk or www.yorkshire.com or can be purchased (.20p) from Beverley¿s Tourist Information Centre, Toll Gavel or the Art Gallery, Champney Road.
